After being postponed last fall, thePerk: The Event is set to return.
When St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese hit his game-winning home run to send the Cardinals to Game 7 of the World Series last October, St. Louis as a whole was in an uproar of excitement.
The excitement was met with mixed feelings by the Missouri Baptist University community. Prior to game six, Dean of Students Dr. Andy Chambers announced the Homecoming tradition, thePerk: The Event, would not compete for attendance with Game 7 of the World Series.
thePerk’s rescheduled date is Jan. 20, almost four months later.
The evening starts at 9 p.m. in Muncy Gym and is scheduled to last until 1 a.m. Admission is $5 and is free to attendees of the home men’s volleyball game prior to the event.
Alumni, students, faculty and staff can look forward to live performances from members of the MBU community, fellowship, coffee and a variety of sweets.
MBU graduate Harry Walls said postponing thePerk was a smart move. Regardless of the change in date, he said the event will have the same feel it always has.
“People love thePerk and they will come no matter what,” Walls said an email. “If it’s January, fine. Homecoming, fine.”
Mark Bryant, senior, sees the event as a time for the school to come together.
“You cannot be a student at Missouri Baptist University and not enjoy this event,” Bryant said in an email. “It’s spectacular.”
